QUESTION: im 18 n im not a virgin ne more n sometimes i get these overwhelming desires to just hook up w/ ppl i start gettin to kno.....is that normal??
ANSWER: Humans were created to have sexual urges and these urges are natural. However, acting upon them is a different story.
God created us to have sexual pleasure in a member of the opposite sex, but not with just anyone… only with a spouse. He didn't make us to satisfy our desires from person to person, stranger, boyfriend or fiancée. Desiring someone who doesn't belong to you in marriage causes frustration and strays away from what the Lord wants for you… true love and true intimacy.
One of the enemy’s goals is to use a cheap imitation of God’s perfect plan of marriage’s true love and intimacy by using LUST. Lust is a longing that is uncontained and uncontrolled. It is the opposite of self-control, which is one of the "fruits of the Holy Spirit" (Galatians 5:23). Jesus wanted to set us free from these fleshly desires. God will allow us to fulfill these desires with a spouse in His good timing. Until that time, we must learn to control our sex drives.
Draw closer to God for the strength and self-control you need. God is our source of strength and the only defense against the enemy's attacks of lust. Building a relationship with God will give you a desire to please Him more than your own flesh desires.
